Turn the visits you already have into enquiries

You are already paying to get these people to your site. This is about how many of them actually get in touch, and it is the only thing here that improves the return without the budget moving.

You are already paying for these visitors

Everything on this page is about the people who already found you. They searched, or a referral sent them, or they typed your name in. They are on the site. The only question left is how many of them get in touch, and for most equipment suppliers the honest answer is fewer than it should be.

This is the only thing we sell that improves the return without the budget moving. Fix the page once and it keeps working on every visitor afterwards, for nothing.

The four places an enquiry dies

  • The form asks for too much. Over about five fields and you are losing people who had already decided to get in touch and changed their mind while looking at it.
  • Calls are not tracked. One number on every page and in every ad, so the majority of serious enquiries in this market cannot be traced to anything. That one belongs to the next pillar as well.
  • The page does not match the search. Somebody looks for one specific machine and lands on a homepage listing nine categories.
  • The mobile experience is poor. Your buyer is on a phone, standing next to the problem, possibly in gloves.

The one almost nobody checks

Most equipment sites open with a sentence like "we supply materials handling equipment to industry". The person reading it is thinking "my forklift is down and I need one by Thursday".

Those are not the same sentence. The visitor has to do the translation, and a good number of them will not bother because there are four other suppliers in the results. This is usually the largest single change available on an equipment website, and it costs nothing but the writing.

Measured in enquiries, not percentages

We record where you are before anything is touched, then compare a month later. The number we report back is enquiries. A conversion rate can improve while enquiries fall, and we are not interested in winning that argument.

How we fix it

What we would actually do

Before you ask

The ones we hear every time

It probably looks excellent. This is not about how it looks. Open it on your own phone and try to send yourself an enquiry, the way a maintenance manager would at seven in the morning in a yard. Most people find something inside thirty seconds.

Sometimes, and we will say so if that is the answer. But if a hundred people land on the page and two enquire, doubling the ad budget buys you two more. Fixing the page can get four out of the hundred you already had, and it keeps doing that afterwards for free.

Days rather than months. None of it is a rebuild — it is the form, the page a search lands on, the phone number, the mobile experience and the words. The rebuild conversation is a different one and usually unnecessary.
